2007 Special Olympics Team Canada
Team Canada consists of 83 Special Olympics Athletes from across Canada who will compete in the following sports at the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai, China, October 2 - 11, 2007; Rhythmic Gymnastics, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, 10 Pin Bowling, Powerlifting, and Athletics.
The World Games are a pivotal part of the sport fabric for Special Olympics athletes and Team Canada will participate, alongside 10,000 athletes, coaches and delegation members from more than 160 countries in Shanghai.
As Canadians we all feel a sense of pride in the accomplishments and perseverance of each of the Team Canada athletes. The individual commitment to train in preparation for the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games is but one component of the journey of each of the 83 athletes. The athletes embarked on their journey by competing at the seventh Special Olympics National Summer Games in Brandon, Manitoba in 2006. This marked the first time that Manitoba hosted Special Olympics National Games. Over 1,000 Special Olympics athletes competed at these games for the honour to represent Canada at the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in China.
Canadians can now follow the journey of the 83 Team Canada athletes by visiting the official website of Team Canada at http://www.teamcanada2007.ca/. We encourage Canadians to show their support for Team Canada by leaving messages.
We would also like to recognize the sponsors who have drafted athletes and are sharing in Team Canada's journey to Shanghai. Their support has helped make this journey possible for Team Canada members and we encourage Canadians to help us extend a well deserved "Thank You" by visiting their profile pages under the Draft an Athlete section at http://www.teamcanada2007.ca/.
