Law Enforcement Torch Run Update

Special Olympics Canada is proud to announce the National Law Enforcement Torch Run Advisory Committee

Special Olympics Canada is proud to announce that the National Board of Directors has formed a National Law Enforcement Torch Run Advisory Committee that will provide leadership to continue to grow awareness for the Law Enforcement Torch Run and Special Olympics across Canada.

The inaugural Advisory Committee consists of:
1. Chief Jack Ewatski (Rtd.), Winnipeg Police Services (past President of the CACP);
2. Chief Murray Faulkner, London Police Services (involved with the Torch Run for over 18 years and also on the Games Organizing Committee for the 2010 National Summer Games);
3. Peter Cuthbert, Executive Director of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police;
4. Lorne White, Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1981 in Wichita, Kansas (USA) when Police Chief Richard LaMunyon conceived the Torch Run as a way to involve local law enforcement personnel in the community and to support Special Olympics Kansas. The first Law Enforcement Torch Run in Canada was held in 1987 and over the years, the Torch Run has evolved into a community based partner raising funds and awareness for athletes with an intellectual disability. In 2006 the Law Enforcement Torch Run raised $2.1 million in Canada. Special Olympics Canada thanks the Advisory Committee for their leadership of both the Law Enforcement Torch Run and of Special Olympics.
