motionball Surpasses One Million Dollar Mark

For six years now, co-founders of motionball, Mark, Paul and Sean Etherington, along with their dedicated team of volunteers, have helped raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics athletes. On February 29, 2008 motionball surpassed the $1 million mark in donations made towards the Special Olympics Canada Foundation.

Mark, Paul and Sean Etherington co-founded motionball in order to introduce a new generation of supporters, sponsors and volunteers to the Special Olympics movement through integrated sporting and social events. The Etherington brothers association with Special Olympics grew out of their parents deep passion for the movement and following years of volunteering at Special Olympics events.

The first event for motionball was the Gala, which was held in Toronto March 2002, and netted $57,000 in its first year. Now, six years later motionball the Gala has continued its tradition of being the hottest party in Toronto and on February 29, 2008, drew a crowd of over 1,000 supporters to the Capitol Event Theater and netted $170,000. The combined events that motionball has hosted in the last six years have netted $1 million in support of Special Olympics athletes, ahead of their ten year goal.

motionball events include the Gala; 6 Marathon of Sport; Football Frenzy; the Fall Classic Golf Tournament in Toronto; the 6 Degrees Gala in Vancouver; as well as a west coast Marathon of Sport. The next event is Marathon of Sport scheduled for May 24, 2008 in Toronto and May 31, 2008 in Vancouver. For more information please visit http://www.motionball.com/.
