2008 Special Olympics Canada National Winter Games

On Tuesday February 26, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. more than 900 Special Olympics athletes, coaches and delegates will gather on the historical Plains of Abraham for Opening Ceremonies of the 2008 Special Olympics Canada National Winter Games.

Participants and spectators will be welcomed to the Games by guest speakers; enjoy musical performances and await the arrival of the Flame of Hope. Mr. Roch Dube will officially proclaim the Opening of the Games with the lighting of the cauldron.

The sport competitions will start on Wednesday February 27, 2008 and conclude on Saturday March 1, 2008. Special Olympics athletes will be competing in curling; snowshoeing; alpine skiing; cross country skiing; floor hockey; figure skating; and speed skating. Special Olympics athletes competing in the Winter Games in Quebec City will have the opportunity to qualify for the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Boise, Idaho, USA. The 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games will take place February 6 to February 13, 2009, where more than 2,000 Special Olympics athletes, from 100 countries are expected to participate in the World Winter Games.
