Special Olympics Canada held its 2008 National Conference in Toronto at the Delta Chelsea Hotel April 25-26. Delegates from across Canada came together to exchange ideas on sports and athlete programs, and integrative fundraising opportunities.
On Friday, April 25, Special Olympics Canada hosted the National Conference welcome reception celebrating the achievements of our tremendous partners; the Law Enforcement Torch Run, motionball and the Special Olympics Festival. The Law Enforcement Torch Run conference was also held in conjunction with the Special Olympics Canada National Conference for the first time with Torch Run delegates teaming up to discuss fundraising strategies and development for the Torch Run Final Leg.
Several of Canada's industry leaders addressed the delegates during the course of the Conference, including keynote speaker Keith Pelley, President of the CTV/Rogers Olympic Consortium; Chief Murray Faulkner, Chief of Police, London Policy Service; Mark Harrison, President TrojanOne; Craig McCord, National Coach, Swimming-Natation Canada; and Dr. Colin Higgs who lead the group through their working session on the Long Term Athlete Development Implementation Plan.
The Conference ended with an evening at the Hockey Hall of Fame where delegates experienced the thrill and history of hockey, followed by dinner in the MCI Great Hall by the glow of the Stanley Cup.
