Ranking among Canada’s best companies –Congratulations to a number of Special Olympics Canada’s valued sponsors and partners after placing on the 2008 Marketing/Leger Corporate Reputation Survey. The annual list which ranks companies based on their perceived reputation among Canadians was originally published in the May 26th issue of Marketing magazine.

“Being honoured as one of Canada’s favourite companies takes a lot of hard work and commitment,” said Deborah Bright, SOC’s president and CEO. “We applaud the value that each of our sponsors and partners places on corporate social responsibility to help build their reputation among employees and within their local communities.”

Kudos to the 13,000-strong team led by Mr. Steve Matyas at STAPLES Business Depot/Bureau en Gros for scoring top marks with Canadians and settling in at the number one position. Also placing on the esteemed list were SUBWAY® Restaurants and Toyota Canada, each finishing in the top ten, followed by Home Hardware, CTVglobemedia and RBC/Royal Bank.


Special Olympics International elects new president –The board of directors of Special Olympics International announced the appointment of J. Brady Lum as president and chief operating officer of Special Olympics International last month.

“As a proud member of the Special Olympics global movement, Special Olympics Canada looks forward to building upon our relationship with Brady’s leadership,” says Deborah Bright, SOC’s president and CEO.

Most recently with The Coca-Cola Company for 15 years, Lum also brings extensive community involvement experience to his new position, including board positions with the Hands On Network, an organization with national reach across the United States.
